Corryn Birkeland is a visual artist from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, who became reacquainted with her love of photography after moving to Nebraska in 2021. With an educational background in architecture, the lens-based work she creates is a visual extension of her enduring passion for historic preservation. The archival nature and engaging physicality of pre-digital materials lends to Birkeland's hands-on approach with analog and experimental processes. Breathing new life into photographic techniques of the past fuels her ongoing creation of darkroom-based and multi-layered imagery with a modern twist.
Prominent themes explored within Birkeland's work include the ebb and flow of feminine identity, human condition as it relates to nature, and the effect of time on physical space.
